Hey everyone! We are honored and excited to be chosen for a series called Between The Lines. We basically are answering a couple questions from the sweet Katherine at Katherine’s Corner. She has worked very hard to put together a wonderful series highlighting bloggers 50 and over and, yes, Dean and I definitely fall in in this category.
Bloggers know that, no matter what their age, running a website/blog is no easy task. It is a lot of hard work if you are doing it by yourself with or without a team of assistants, especially if you are working at a full time job. Dean and I basically run our website on the weekends and in the wee hours of the night.
Over the past 10 years, I have done nothing but learn everything I can about running a blog in my spare time. I love it. I thrive on it. I am self taught on the tech and social media side and feel my marketing and business acumen comes naturally for me in addition to minoring in marketing through college. I consider every course I have taken, every conference I have attended and every book that I have read an investment in our little side hustle. I have a photo somewhere that Dean snapped of me with a phone in each hand, a laptop and ipad in front of me which looked totally staged but it wasn’t. It is just another normal evening or weekend behind the scenes of Diane + Dean DIY.
Admittedly, Dean is the one that is doing a lot of the hard physical labor. I am so grateful and lucky that I have such an amazing husband. Anyone that has a blog has a ton on their plate whether it is the actual do it yourself projects, creating recipes, shopping for the fashion etc…, taking beautiful pictures, editing the beautiful pictures with cropping, exposure, writing content with 500-1000 words on and on and oh, there is ALWAYS some technical unexpected thing that is sure to pop up right when you are ready to post to your blog. The bottom line is that just about every blog you read, there has been someone or many people behind the scenes working very very hard on just that one post.
I wish I had more time to share. Thank you for visiting our blog and if you are interested in DIY | Home Improvement|Organizing|Hand Lettering|Landscaping please stick around. Thank you, again, to Katherine for including us in the series. Here are our answers to the questions she asked.
1) Do I think I blog more in the cooler weather?
We don’t really pay attention to the seasons of blogging. It seems 24/7 but I think everyone goes through seasons in their lives where they may take a break and re charge. It all depends what diy projects we have going on and when we can carve out time for each one. Living in Florida, we do try to do outdoor projects in the cooler months and indoor projects when it is the warmer humid months so the pergola that was built, gardening, paver sidewalk and outdoor campfire area were mostly done in the cooler seasons.
We do have an upcoming laundry room makeover that seems to have taken us all seasons to complete. It is three quarters of the way done but sometimes you just change your colors or design right in the middle of the renovation so it tends to prolong the process a bit.
2) Are you looking forward to the summer?
Not so much. We lived in the Midwest most of our lives before living in Florida and we know how hot and humid summers can get no matter where you live. Okay, with the exception of California which we love. Summers in Florida can be brutal so if we can escape to cooler temperatures we will, especially if it involves a lake. North Carolina and Georgia are our next vacation spots so if you know of any really good deals send them our way.
