I have never been a big “gift” person. Of course, I appreciate surprise gifts every now and then but I have never expected to receive lavish gifts from anyone. My husband certainly got lucky in this department that he didn’t have to buy me a big diamond ring for our wedding and spend hundreds of dollars for anniversaries and birthdays. The truth is when some women would throw the blender their husband got them for Christmas across the living room because it wasn’t a Tiffany necklace, I would most likely see how fast I could plug it in and make the latest detox smoothie! The more practical and useful a gift is, the more I love it and the more practical a gift I can buy or make for my husband’s enjoyment I love even more!
So, what does this have to do with a DIY Vintage bottle opener, you say? Uh, everything, when you have a husband who enjoys a nice craft IPA beer after a long day working tirelessly in the yard. Practical? Most definitely. Lavish? Not at all. Enjoyed by husband? That’s a positive yes! Sometimes the simplest little things can bring such joy. Am I right? It was actually Dean’s idea to purchase and add a vintage bottle opener for nostalgia in the kitchen. This spur of the moment idea set us back a whole $6.00 and took my husband less than ten minutes to get the screwdriver and screws out of the garage and screw it in to the wood. Phew! That deserves a cold one, already!
At the time, I couldn’t imagine where Dean was thinking of putting this but he found the perfect spot on a piece of 7 inch wood next to the dishwasher. Everytime I see him or our company crack open a bottle using this small and most practical little ornament on what used to be just a bare piece of wood, I feel a bit nostalgic. I wonder who before us used this, where was it placed and what era was this used? The truth be told, I haven’t really done much research on vintage bottle openers lately, or ever come to think of it, but now I am a bit more curious.
